So when a piece emerges from the kiln as strikingly beautiful as this one, work stops and everyone gathers around for a closer look. Unlike wheel-thrown work that takes its shape on the potter's wheel, hand built pieces start out as a rolled slab. Tama then trims, tucks and shapes the edges, giving each a soft, rounded look. On the bottom are clay feet padded with felt, so it can set softly on fine furniture. It is signed and dated with an inscribed signature. This would be a wonderful piece both for either home decorating or serving.
